What is Animal Chiropractic ?
Animal chiropractic or Veterinary Spinal Manipulation is the adjusting, manipulation or mobilization of a joint.
What species can be adjusted?
Anything with a joint. For obvious reasons; location and accessibility will have to be determined and safety of the animal, handlers and practitioner are our first priority.
How do I know my animal needs an adjustment?
There are a variety of reasons people seek chiropractic care, below is a sample, but not exclusive list of reasons to have your animal adjusted.
- Lameness not otherwise able to be diagnosed
- After major injuries or surgical procedures (once cleared by their primary Veterinarian)
- Muscles spasm or discomfort
- Neurological symptoms
- Arthritic changes

- Palliative or end of life comfort care

- Tune ups post long travel, kennel stays

- Pre or post show tune ups/recovery
Do I need a referral?
Not necessarily. For most conditions a referral is not necessary. Post surgical clearance is required, and veterinary referral/all clear post accident or trauma is required.
Who can adjust animals?
In Michigan, both a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) can adjust animals. In both instances, a post graduate certification is required. Only a DVM, or DC may attend these certification courses.
